Need Help Configuring MySQL 5 on Mac OSX 10.4

By: rekha singh | 13 Mar 2010 12:31 pm

Hi all,

I've installed MySQL 5 on my Mac. The server is running, now I'd like to configure it.

I'm required to use socket connections to connect to it. How might I remove this requirement, so I can connect using and IP port? How do I set which port its on? Are these values contained in the "my.cnf" file? Where is that located, and how may I edit it?

I'm connecting using user 'root' without a password. What the best way to add a new user? Should I disable root's access to the server?

Also, my knowledge of Unix and Terminal commands is basic ... I can type 'em, but don't have much experience to fall back when Terminal responds "tsch: mysql.server: Command not found.", which happens fairly often when I've attempted to follow procedures found on various websites.

Thank you,

You should be concerned. Root in mysql = SA on SQL Server. Put a password in.
